that brief moment after a deep sleep,
complete with dreams so vivid that you remember every detail,
so vivid that for a brief moment it felt real.
but you are tethered to reality,
and you distinguish a line between what was in your head, and
what is real.
that brief moment after a deep sleep,
where you feel like you are on a cloud,
floating off to space,
carried by a balloon inflated with endless stories
created by your less conscious mind.
but it will pop, and you will fall
back to the ground.
that brief moment after a deep sleep,
with eyes foggy and blurred,
when you glance around your dark room,
shadows and six a.m.
making you feel like you are
still in your sleeping brain.
that brief moment after a deep sleep,
so short and pointless in a day
that most are not even aware that it happened.
their lives unaffected by this temporary
unreality.
their lives drifting back to the comfortable normal.
reality is fitting.
that brief moment after a deep sleep,
for most only existent for a split-second in time,
but for me,
dragged out,
and cloaking what is real
with a veil of imaginary smoke.
